For some athletes, young or old, the rigors of sport just never seems to stop. But, for Whangarei up-and-comer Shayden Toka it is all worth it after taking a special double at the Kaitaia Junior and Open squash tournament.
Toka proved to be the alpha male at the tournament by taking out the junior boys' division one and the men's division two titles.
While most Northlanders were having a holiday over Queen's Birthday, 44 seniors and 26 juniors from all over Northland and Waikato played over the weekend.
Local player Kylie Harrison took out the senior ladies title. Harrison came up against Lisa Wright with Harrison having the upper hand.
The Kerikeri pair of Vincent Robson and Hamish Browne were pitted against each other for the men's open final, with Robson proving too strong for Browne in the end.
