Going up against the number-one ranked test team in the world is just the medicine the Black Caps need to forget their recent tour to Bangladesh, Black Cap seamer Tim Southee reckons.
The Maungakaramea bowler played for his club side on Saturday before being selected in the national team to tour India yesterday.
"It's one of the toughest assignments in cricket, going to play one of the world's best teams in their own country, so it's a big challenge for us and we'll be working hard and hopefully produce some good results," he said.
The massive crowds in the cricket-mad country will put pressure on the team to perform, Southee said, but they were more than capable of adapting to it.
"The tour to Bangladesh was obviously disappointing but we've got to move on and we'll do that by concentrating on the Indian series," he said.
"They were here just over a year ago so it's not as though we haven't played them for a while but they do have a star-studded line-up and it's always a big challenge to play against them."
The bowler was reluctant to discuss the reasons for the Black Caps disappointing form in Bangladesh, where they were beaten 4-0 in the ODI series.
"Bangladesh are getting better all the time but I don't think there's too much point in talking about that [series] now. I think there's been enough said about it," he said.
Southee wants to sharpen up his own bowling ahead of the three-test series with India.
"I'm not particularly happy with my own form, I feel I'm still coming off the off-season."
