The final between Netball North
``South'' and ``North'' Origin teams
was a highlight of the Netball
North Field Day held at the
Whangarei Netball Centre on
Sunday with some athletic, aerial,
energetic, highly skilled and fast
netball on display.
The ball see-sawed at speed
from one end to the other with

some amazing intercepts
interrupting the flow of the game.
The South team showed better
discipline overall in the feature
game of the day and finished the
eventual winners.
The Field Day attracted
representative teams from all
 netball centres within the Netball
North region, including North
Harbour, Hibiscus Coast, Kaipara,
Rodney, Whangarei, Northern
Wairoa, Kerikeri, Bay of Islands
and Mangonui.
Representative age groups
participating included Year 7,
Year 8, Year 9, Under-15 and U17.
 Sunday was a reasonable day,
 which allowed some good netball
to be played.
In all the other finals, the
Netball North Harbour teams
claimed victory, winning every
age group final. The Harbour
teams were more systematic in
their play, showing polish in their
set movements and more
confidence in their shots.
Twelve players were chosen
from the U15 and U17 age groups
and these players comprise the
Netball North tournament team
for New Zealand Talent
Development Days.
The Development Days are an
opportunity for emerging players
to experience a ``day in the life of
a Silver Fern'' and they also
provide the start of a selection
process for the New Zealand
Secondary Schools team.
Included in the 12 players
named in the squad were four
from the Whangarei Netball
Centre _ Kelsey Power (BBC
Waipu), Truely Harding and
Alanah Vinson (WGHS) and
Cherith Schraag (Onerahi).
Schraag was also named player
of the Netball North Field Day
which acknowledged her
outstanding performance during
the day.  Two other Whangarei-
based players were named as
reserves in the squad _ Jade
Telfer (WGHS) and Reisheen
Tupea (BBC Waipu).
 Whangarei umpires were also
selected to umpire the finals,
 including Anna Cresswell,
Catherine Cresswell, Sue
Cresswell, Joshua Delamere and
Barry Bredenbeck.

FINAL RESULTS:
Year 7 winners: North Harbour 13-9 over Hibiscus Coast.
Year 8 winners: North Harbour  33-7 over Northern Wairoa.
Year 9 winners: North Harbour 29-16 over Hibiscus Coast.
U15 winners: North Harbour 32-12 over Bay of Islands.
U17 winners: Netball North-South Origin team 28-18 over North
Origin.
