Once again a Far North team entering a national knockout football competition has been given the short straw. This time it's the turn of Kerikeri High School 1st XI girls team who travel to play Warkworth at Shoesmith Reserve this Sunday, in the preliminary round two of the ASB Women's Knockout Cup.
The Kerikeri High students feature in the Northern Region draw of the national knockout tournament (comprising teams from the Northland, Auckland and WaiBOP federations). The only Northern Region match in the preliminary round one game of the ASB Knockout Cup was played last Sunday between Glen Eden and Oratia at Parrs Park.
The luck of being given an away fixture reminds how the two Northland men's sides also drew away games to open their 2013 Chatham Cup accounts last month with the Kerikeri and Tikipunga premier division sides having to travel to Auckland where both were eliminated.
