Things have gone according to plan for Caroline Bon on her first foray into the world of professional golf but she's trying hard not to raise her expectations when she tees off in the Australian Open today.
Making the cut would be a huge fillip for the Whangarei 23-year-old in the richest tournament she has ever played - one that has drawn many of the top players in the world.
"That's definitely my aim but right now I'm just so happy that in the last five events I've managed to make enough money to make it into both the open and the ANZ Masters, that was my first aim and I'm so glad I've achieved that.
"I'm trying to have a few days to prepare my head for not just making the cut - but trying to play well - I don't want to even think about the cut really."
A 35th at the Royal Ladies Classic in Canberra last weekend shows she is playing well, but there is no doubt that surviving to tee off in the third round on Saturday will be a big ask.
"I was reading who was in the open and I recognised a lot of big names so there's no doubt this is a good field - a very good field," Bon said.
At least the presence of so many top players means she will get an extra practice day to prepare as it is unlikely she'll be required for the Pro-Am.
At least one familiar face should help her relax when she tees off today. Her friend and mentor Colleen Atchison has joined her in Melbourne to carry her bags during the big event.
So far, it's all good for Bon
