Northland water-skier Curtis Williams was part of the New Zealand team which placed third out of 23 teams at the recent Asia and Oceania Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea.
The 15-year-old also placed 12th in the tricks category, against competitors well into their 20s.
Northern Region Water Ski Association president Glen Williams said the four-man, two-woman team did well to finish one place ahead of championship hosts South Korea, particularly given the injury and early withdrawal of team member Thomas Gilbert.
The competition was interrupted by Typhoon Bolaven lashing the country, with the finals day cancelled and results coming from just the preliminary rounds.
Australia won the competition, with Japan second.
