Fresh off the back of a one-day series defeat, the Indians were taking the warm-up seriously, Marr added - with no special functions allowed.
"Unfortunately we can't do a function for the Indians. The management has requested that doesn't happen.
"So, basically, they're coming here to play cricket and we're going to look after them to the best of our ability ... they're here to warm up and prepare for the test series and they'll be off to Auckland pretty much straight away."
New Zealand Cricket had said test openers Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford would be allowed to play, but the pair had since been removed from the team.
Despite their removal, Marr was positive the oval would draw enough people to reach a goal of having 2000 spectators for tomorrow's action - noting that with school returning Monday's crowd was likely to be smaller.
"It's great to have these young New Zealand guys who are vying for first-class spots or [NZ] A selection in the New Zealand set-up. What a great opportunity.
"It's going to be a laid-back cricket day, real traditional cricket where people can enjoy a day out," Marr said.
The New Zealand XI will be coached by national A and Under-19 coach Grant Bradburn, who is excited about the opportunities the match offers.
"The players will get a taste of the next level as well as the chance to show what they can do, and we'll get to see how they respond," Bradburn commented.
"We're obviously up against a top international side in India, and the guys are jumping out of their skins to get into it.
"This will be a good hit out for India. We're respectful of what they need out of the match and will work with them to offer that, but at the same time we'll be doing our utmost to go through them."
The format is a two-day match, with 100 overs to be played each day. Play will start at 10.30am each day, with tickets being $10 for each day.
