With under a month to go until the 2014 Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day is held on February 16, the Opua Cruising Club and Taipa Sailing Club are among sailing clubs from around New Zealand gearing up for a big day on the water and to welcome the public through the club doors.
The one-day sailing and boating event is a Yachting New Zealand-led initiative and more than 40 clubs have already signed up to take part in some way.
The event is expected to see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days, including have-a-go sessions and fun events for all the family.
Opua Cruising Club will have its doors open from 11.30am to 5pm and, apart from having the bar open and a sausage sizzle on the deck, the plans are to hold Have a Go at Sailing for Kids in Optimists , and for adults in E5.9s and other small keelboats.
Further north, the Taipa Sailing Club will be open from 1.30-3.30pm for a fun day and promotional activities.
