The Northland Rugby Union has announced a training squad for the newly developed Northland women's sevens team after the NZRU Rio Go4Gold Trial Camp held at Kensington Park.
The squad will prepare for the inaugural NZRU national provincial tournament to be held in early 2013. A series of monthly training camps will be held to help develop the players for the rigours of high-level provincial sevens rugby.
The squad was selected by Allan Bunting (NZRU sevens resource coach), Vania Lavea (NZRU women's development coach), Peter Nock (Northland Men's Sevens coach), Adriaan Ferris (ITM Cup head coach), Derren Witcombe (ITM Cup assistant coach), Bruce Robertson (NRU high performance coach), Tony Monaghan (former NZ sevens player), Kelly McCallum (former Japan Women's academy coach) and Hamish McKerrow (Northland Rugby development coach).
Bunting commended Northland rugby for a very good turnout and was highly impressed by the skill and ability of the players he saw.
A final squad will be selected in October to prepare for the national provincial tournament.
