The top-of-the-table clash between Wellsford and Mid Western should be a cracker, but the two Whangarei matches will have just as much spark to them when they kick off tomorrow.
With just three rounds remaining Wellsford and Mid Western are almost certain of qualifying for the Southern Districts premier semifinals, but there's plenty on the match with a home playoff on offer. Mid Northern is hot on the leading teams' heels, but they still need a win over the Sharks in Dargaville to secure the third berth.
Points are a lot more precious among the teams in the race for the final playoff place.
Kamo host Hora Hora with both teams still able to reach the finals. Hora Hora were impressive but unlucky against Mid Northern last week. The match will be Hora Hora's final throw of the dice. If they lose they won't feature in the playoffs and that is sure to lift them against Kamo. Kamo are level with Marist in fourth place and neither side can afford to hand the other team the advantage in the race. Marist play sixth-placed Old Boys in another high stakes match at Kensington Park with both sides desperate to remain in title contention.
There's no semifinal in Hikurangi's sights but they also will be eyeing up a rare second round win when Otamatea visit tomorrow. Otamatea pushed Kamo hard and if they want to escape the relegation match this year they will have to beat Hikurangi and notch up at least one other victory from their final two matches.
