Hundreds will scale Baldrock Mountain tomorrow as part of the annual Top of the Rock multi-sport event in Kaiwaka.

The Top of the Rock event will be its fourth edition thanks to the Kaiwaka Sports Association which caters for walkers, runners and mountain bikers. It provides both recreational or competitive options, with a 5km or 10km walk or run, 15km mountain bike ride, or a 30km mountain bike.

Routes traverse some of Kaiwaka's most scenic countryside - bush, lakes and farmland - to the well-formed track which spirals around the mountain, which is easier than the daunting view from the road suggests.

Organisers say participants don't need to be concerned about fitness levels as there is no time limit on completing the events and they will have marshalls in utes following the tailenders who can even get a ride back.

TV3's Brendon "Money Man" Johnson will host the prizegiving with prizes for placegetters as well as lots of spot prizes, including a mountain bike sponsored by MyBike Whangarei.

Last year there were over 300 participants, with this year looking to have a similar number.
