Motocross and quad bike riders will hit one of the best and longest trails in the region at the Maungaturoto Country Club Trail Ride tomorrow.
The trail ride runs for 80km, crosses 10 farms, travels through pine forest and native bush, includes tracks for both motocross and quad bikes, and appeals to both experts and novices.
Auckland's Phillip Searle, who is returning to compete tomorrow after enjoying last year's event, said he was rapt with the trails and the opportunity to ride through such a fantastic piece of country.
"It's great we have these types of events ...
"They give us townies a chance to ride in the country," he said. The 80km track is twice as long as most trail ride tracks and comprises two tracks of similar lengths.
Riders can complete one or both. Country Club members Shay Hawken and Brett Coates said the trail ride is great for people of all abilities.
The event is located a few kilometres off State Highway One and it attracts about 500 people from around Northland and Auckland.
The event will commence at Smales Farms on Golden Stairs Rd, 8.5km from Maungaturoto.
The route will be signposted from State Highway One at the south side of the Brynderwyns.
The tracks will open at 8.30am and close at 3pm.
Entry for adults is $30, children under 16 cost $20, families are $70 (either two adults and two children or one adult and three children). Riders are required to wear helmets and suitable footwear.
