Northland interprovincial representatives Lee Neumann and Kadin Neho were too strong for the rest of the field in the Pines Golf Club's 24th annual Pines Pairs Tournament.
The pair cruised through to the final to meet Craig Palmer and Jack Windwood but also made easy work of them - winning the title on the 14th - 6 and 4. It would have been a big effort for anyone to have beaten them after they birdied 11 of the 14 holes.
In all, 64 pairs competed in the two-day matchplay competition with entries from 24 clubs from Kaitaia to Nelson. Each pair played four rounds in total, competing for a prize pool worth $14,000.
Anthony Gilmour and Tony Reid won the second division title, with the father and son pairing of John Hicks snr and jnr winning the third division competition.
Hicks snr produced no mean feat by carding a score one better than his age in one round - he shot a a 71.
Don Mackenzie was also the envy of other golfers by scoring a hole in one on the par-three 18th. It was the third ace of his playing career.
Two of the pairs, Jack Baker and Tony Foy, as well as Alan Morgan and Tony Valiant, had played every year at the tournament since it began in 1988.
The course at Parua Bay was in exceptional condition and weather was near-perfect on both days.
