Northland's Rene Ranger and the Blues have a point to prove in tonight's clash with the Reds.
"The boys are really excited about this game. The Reds are a great side and we have a point to prove as a team - we want to shake the negative press about our
inconsistent performances in past years. To come away with four points from this game would be great," Ranger said.
Before flying out to Brisbane yesterday, Ranger described the team as feeling keen and refreshed.
While there was a lot of focus on injuries hitting 10 of the Blues squad this week, the 24-year-old said the team had carried on as best they could.
"I don't think our injuries have affected us too much ... at least, it has been an opportunity for the young fullas who are ready to step up, we have plenty of back-up and depth within the side."
Ranger, who will shift from centre to wing tonight, said the Blues were expecting a tough game from the pacy Reds unit.
"They play fast footy - it will be fun I reckon, especially with the likes of Quade Cooper [ five-eighth] and Will Genia (halfback). They run their team well, and we will be trying to shut down Genia - he's the key to getting the to Cooper. We need to shut their quick ruck ball down."
While Ranger would prefer more game time at centre, the outside back said so long as he was playing, he was happy.
The Blues were gearing up for a massive battle at Suncorp Stadium, where they are expecting plenty of Kiwi support.
"Yeah there are a few Kiwis over there - and we heard it's nearly sold out, so it should be a big crowd with a good atmosphere ... it's going to be a great challenge," he said.
