Overseas visitors at the IFAA Pacific Region Field Archery Championships, at the Mount Tiger range, were introduced to a new archery accessory on Sunday - the crampon.
Heavy overnight rain on Saturday and a continuous downpour on Sunday meant difficult conditions underfoot for the third day of competition, but the locals were more prepared for what awaited them.
"It was very slippery ... we asked the Aussies if they had brought their crampons and they had no idea what we were talking about," organiser Linda Garner said.
"Some of the guys lent some of the visitors crampons and they were chuffed."
Despite the trying conditions there were plenty of records broken - 12 New Zealand records, two pacific regional records and two world records - when the shoot concluded on Sunday.
Both the world records were broken in the "cub" or under-13 class, with Rodney's Nathan Orchard in fine form, with a top score of 1648 out of a maximum 1680. Mt Tiger's Kelsey Ferris also set a world record in the female cub division.
Massey's Linda Lainchbury coped best in the daunting conditions by shooting a perfect 560, from her 28 targets. She was also the top adult overall with 1635 points from the weekend.
Mt Tiger's Trevor Irvine won the hotly contested veteran men's section, and was the most successful of the locals.
