Northland road-running titles will be hotly contested over a new, flat and fast course on Harris Rd.
With Ian Calder out of the country after the World Masters' Games, Hatea speedster Steve O'Neill looks set to take the senior men's title and line honours in the combined masters and seniors' 10km on Saturday.
If he weakens over the distance, O'Neill will face challenges from clubmates Kim Jepson and Jason Trass and Whangarei's Mike Gowing and Rob Lieffering.
The men's under-19 5km race is likely to feature a battle between Dylan French and Ryan Slater - French has strength from racing over longer distances and Slater the speed of a middle-distance runner - while Tim Riddell is another contender who cannot be discounted.
On recent form, Travis Connelly must be favourite in the men's under-17 5km race, with Zac Sinclair runner-up.
Ethan Carter has the form to take the 2km under-14 title, ahead of Liam Seeley, while Lewis Miller is a likely winner of the boys' under-12 title.
In the combined women's 5km race, with Katherine Anton side-lined by injury, Ady Ngawati should have little difficulty taking line honours and the open women's championship ahead of Amy Burke and Bronwyn Dyer.
In the under-20 women's race, Eryn Lovell looks set to add the road title to her cross-country title while Alyse Hart, Tayla Going and Lakiesha Cumming look likely to take the under-17, under-14 and under-12 titles respectively.
Among the men, competition will be intense within the 45-49 years' grade, with Richard Blogg, Steve Trass and Stu Slater chasing top placings.
Contenders in the other men's grades are likely to be Lieffering and Max Thomas (40-44), Gowing and Max Smith (50-54), Morris Gray (55-59), Fred Needham, Jimmy Kettlewell, Brian Barach and Willie Bowmar (60-64), Tony Langton and Rob Griffin (65-69), and Dave Eastmond (70-74).
The tightest competition in the master women's titles can be expected in the 45-49 section with Leigh Ruddock and Christine Fraser contesting the title and Janice Powell, Robyn Allen, Lynda Going, Jackie Grant and Toni Daly following.
Other picks for honours are Denise Limby (40-44), Jane Sweeney followed by Sue Shand (50-54), Tina Maher followed by Gillian Michel (55-59), Annette Murray followed by Oringa Barach (60-64), and Lynn Fraser (65-69).
