Despite the big raps Rae is not about to throw D'Cash Man into the deep end just yet.
"There's a rating 65 1000 metres up here at the next meeting, which is a nice option for him."
After that, however, the ambitions are likely to go up a notch. "The Whangarei Breeders Stakes in September is a nice option for him. Vince believes he will get 1600 metres so we will throw in an early nomination for the Guineas at Riccarton in November."
Local trainers enjoyed plenty of success over the two-day meeting, picking up seven winners between them.
Most successful was Dean and Donna Logan who trained five winners. The Arrow Keeper's win on Friday notched up Donna Logan's 600th training career win in New Zealand.
The Logans went into the two-day meet with several good chances, but admitted being pleasantly surprised with the winning performance of Splitfire on Saturday.
"Because of a lack of nominations they canned the race we had planned for her so the only option available was a race we didn't think she was particularly well placed in," said Donna Logan.
However no one had told Splitfire that and the mare refused to yield, leading all the way and beating several well-performed sprinters.
"She will go to New Plymouth now at the end of this month for a special conditioned maiden event worth $25,000," said Logan.
"Being a mare she gets in with a reasonable weight and as a three-win horse you would expect her to be very competitive."
