Northland powerlifters have pressed on from their strong performances at the Northland Championships to break more regional records, this time at the North Island Powerlifting Championships in Tauranga.
Led by Kerikeri's Dean Price - with a New Zealand record bench press of 130kg, a Northland record squat of 140kg, and a 165kg deadlift to produce a Northland record 435kg total lift weight - Northland's seven-strong team produced outstanding results.
Dargaville's Jordan Bennett took out first place in the under-24 74kg class with a squat of 135kg, a Northland junior record deadlift of 190kg, and a bench press of 110kg to, like Price, produce a Northland junior record total lift of 435kg.
Bennett was backed up by Whangarei's Lindsey Daysh at the championships last month, with Daysh placing second. Daysh set a Northland record deadlift of 180kg, a squat of 135kg and a bench press of 95kg.
Fellow Whangarei lifter Joseph Whittaker won the open men's 120kg class with a Northland record 265kg squat, a 155kg bench press and 270kg deadlift for a whopping 690kg total.
