The Olly Batger Tournament held at Mairtown Tennis Club last weekend was considered a success by Mairtown committee member Lianne Nicholas, with 18 men and 10 women playing in doubles events.
"It was a weekend of very competitive tennis, played with a lot of fun and providing exciting entertainment for the onlookers. Players came from as far as Auckland and Kerikeri to compete," Nicholas said.
The Olly Batger Tournament has been run since the 1980s, previously known as the Mairtown Masters, and was hosted by master of ceremonies Ian Bird during Saturday's competition.
Sunday's mixed doubles proved to be a close-fought competition, with many games being decided by tie-break, much to the delight of the enthusiastic supporters.
