Despite chilly temperatures in the UK at the moment, most of the English squad have acclimatised to warmer weather, having travelled to New Zealand straight from their tour of India.
The T20 series on the sub-continent was drawn 1-all, India won the one-day series 3-2, and England won the four-match test series 2-1.
The English T20 side will be captained by Stuart Broad, who is making his return to international cricket after being sidelined since November after a heel injury and, also, poor weather prevented him from joining the ODI squad in India.
Former Black Caps captain Ross Taylor is making his international return for the NZ XI, which will be captained by Canterbury's Andrew Ellis, who has just been named in the Black Caps' T20 and ODI squads for the England tour.
The first Black Caps T20 match is at Eden Park on Saturday.
