Kaipara Flats' Michael O'Flaherty found his stride late in the season, with a stunning first century for the premier club side in the two-day competition.
Batting at first drop against Whangarei Boys' High School First XI, O'Flaherty spent 60 overs at the crease to rack up 117 on the slow Kaipara Flats wicket during the opening day of the fourth-round contest.
The hosts had earlier won the toss and their decision to bat paid off. While openers Arun Charles and Kevin Forde were dismissed for 23 and four respectively, O'Flaherty put in the hard yards and, along with Brett Hood (55), led the way for the rest of the order, Kaipara skipper Jake Phillips said.
"It was Mike's first century for the premier team in about four seasons - he batted really well. Brett and Mike put together a good partnership (124) and from then on, it was pretty easy batting after those two," Phillips said.
Shane Hood (21), Raymond Beamish (23), Phillips (20) and Matt Taylor (28 not out) all chipped in, before Kaipara declared at 308 for nine wickets.
"We thought we would have a bowl at the end of the day to try and get a few wickets - but in the end that didn't happen... next week we will be looking to bowl them out pretty quickly," Phillips said.
Max Trimble was best with the ball for Boys' High, taking two wickets for 23 runs, while Fraser Seymour took 2-38. The rest of the wickets were shared around.
The schoolboys then went into bat and Seymour (24 not out) and Bradley Kneebone (16 not out) made good starts and will resume their spots at the crease on day two next Saturday.
At Kensington Park, Kamo sent Onerahi Central into bat after winning the toss, and had them all out for a paltry 149 in 38.5 overs. Nic Breslin was the best with the bat for Onerahi, scoring 35.
Kamo then went into bat and made a solid start, finishing the day on 211 after 74 overs, with nine wickets down. Adam Sylva did his best to disrupt Kamo's batting order, taking 4-60 on Saturday.
At Maungakaramea, City were sent into bat by the hosts.
Maungakaramea grabbed the key wickets of Richard Atkins, Ian Page and Joey Yovich early on and looked to be in trouble on 5-57 when Harry Darkins went into bat. He steadied the ship with 40 runs, but City were dismissed for 148.
James Merry snagged 4-60 off 22 overs, while Michael Parlane took 3-30.
The hosts were on 129-3 at the close of play.
Joe O'Sullivan is not out on 34, while Mark Southee reached 45, including four consecutive sixes.
