A PROMINENT Northland sportsman and real estate agent, Robert Blyth Tait (left), died yesterday. He was aged 75.
Details were sketchy yesterday, but it is understood Mr Tait did not recover from surgery in Auckland on Tuesday to remedy a medical condition.
His wife of 51 years, Glenise, and their three children -aren, Sandra and Olympic equestrian Blyth - were in Auckland yesterday and are believed to be returning to Whangarei today with the body.
Mr Tait operated Tait Real Estate in Whangarei for about 45 years.
He was, in turns, an ardent player, coach and supporter of the Hikurangi Rugby Football Club throughout his life and he represented North Auckland as fullback in 11 matches from 1953-55.
Mr Tait's other great sporting interest was racehorses. He was a respected owner-trainer and was past president and patron of the Whangarei Racing Club.
Funeral information will be published when available.
