Seven Northland players have been named in New Zealand Junior Black Sticks teams to contest the Junior World Cup.
While Shay Neal has already been to Malaysia to play for the junior men's side, Carli Michelsen, Stacey Michelsen Alana Millington, Nicky Howes, Jacinda McLeod and Ella Gunson leave for Boston at the end of the month to play at the junior women's World Cup in early August.
Sending the players overseas is an expensive exercise.
Neal was required to contribute $7000, while the women have to find $8000 to cover their expenses, following Sport and Recreation New Zealand's funding cuts to hockey.
To help raise funds for the travellers, a quiz/auction night is being held on July 25 at Northland Hockey Complex.
The fundraisers require donated goods or services to be used on the night as spot prizes or auction items.
Tables of five or 10 are available for the event and tickets can be purchased from Leone Neal. Phone 027 4141365 or the Northland Hockey Association.
