A five-strong Northland contingent represented their province with pride at the National Powerlifting Championships at Tauranga.
Northland showed dominance in the sport, with every lifter in the team placing in their respective grades, breaking nine national records and 20 Northland records between them.
Eighty-two lifters from all over New Zealand converged on Hotel Armitage for last weekend's event.
Northland's women commanded some impressive results, with Dargaville's Karen Thomson claiming the master women's 40-49 best lifter, as well as class titles. She placed second in the 52kg open women's class with a squat of 112.5kg, setting a New Zealand 40-49 master record, and bench-pressed 80kg for a national record.
Her 130kg deadlift was also a national master and open record for her age group, as was her total lift of 322.5kg.
Kaikohe's Trish Muldrock was third overall in the 52kg open class, with her NZ 50-59 master record 95kg squat, 67.5kg benchpress, deadlift of 127.5kg and 290kg total. She won the women's master 50-59 class convincingly.
In the men's 74kg class, Kerikeri's Craig Jordan put together a total of 455kg which included a squat of 150kg, bench press of 130kg and 175kg deadlift, which earned him third place.
Dargaville's Brian Froggatt was ninth in the 83kg class, setting a masters 50-59 national record with his 170kg bench-press, and was second in his masters age group, while lifting 400kg in total in the 93kg class.
Kaeo's Goody Metuano'oraroa was 10th overall and second in the master 40-49 class with a 495kg total.
