Maintaining defensive pressure and scoring goals will be high on North Force's priorities at practice this week after they lost 1-3 to Albany.
The score might have been closer, particularly in the second spell when North Force created chance after chance but apart from a well taken goal to captain Steve Schimmel, they couldn't hit the net.
Player-coach Scott Burgess said the team might have stolen a point after dominating the second spell but their finishing - in front of goal - simply wasn't up to it.
"We were heaps better in the second half, when we started closing them down and playing like we were supposed to," he said.
"We created tons of chances and in the end we might have got something out of it but if you can't finish, then you're not going to get the points," he said.
North Force started the game well enough and if they had converted their early pressure into a goal the result might have been different.
Instead, they allowed the visitors to settle and Albany responded with some good football, opening their account with a Sam Robinson goal midway through the spell.
The goal should have woken North Force up but instead they conceded a second shortly afterwards, when Peter Shaw headed home - with the general consensus around the ground that the locals had "gone to sleep" for a while.
Going to sleep in a football match, is an expression that generally means a team played well below themselves and that's what happened.
"We stopped pressuring them and gave them too much time on the ball and at this level if you do that they're going to give you a pasting," he said.
The score was 2-0 at the break and the halftime message would have dwelt on the value of making a good start and scoring first.
Instead, they were rocked by a third goal by Sam White, which almost killed the game off. The main positive from the game for the coaching staff was was happened after that. The North Force players began to outplay Albany but apart from Steve Schimmel's goal midway through the spell, it was a matter of too little too late.
Schimmel was impressive throughout, with young Daniel Ridgely playing well on the right flank. Defenders Aaron Taylor and Jeremy Rintoul were also praised for their work by the coach and they will all have their work cut out for them when league leaders Glenfield Rovers come calling next week.
