A long-range strike by Estelle Harrison broke the scoring drought for the North Force women's team and it proved to be the start they needed as they went on to beat Hibiscus Coast 4-1 in the Northern Football Federation's premier league.
The last goal they had scored was in the 1-1 draw against West Auckland on April 17 so the latest effort was overdue - and something of a surprise.
"It was from about 40 yards out. It was a shot all right, she was very frustrated with how we'd been going and lined up a hopeful shot and it went in, so we were all pretty happy," coach Dee Tunstall said.
The home side equalised but, for a change, North Force knuckled down and added two more goals to Becky Hawker and Sophie Fladgate before halftime.
With the team on top, Tunstall brought on some of her younger players to give them some game time after a few weeks of warming the bench as a result of some tight matches.
"They didn't let us down either and we had a few more opportunities to score but couldn't quite finish them off," she said.
The final goal was from a penalty for handball and Morgan Tunstall buried the spot kick without hesitation.
The win ended a frustrating few games for Tunstall as the team struggled to get the results she feels they deserved.
"Our results so far haven't really shown how well we've been playing - we're playing well but have been struggling to score," Tunstall said.
Apart from a 0-5 drubbing by second-placed Glenfield Rovers, they have been far from outclassed and Tunstall hopes the match against top-of-the-table Waitakere City this Sunday at Tikipunga, will show that.
In the first round they were beaten 2-3 by Waitakere but at home they are keen to show they have improved since the second match of the season.
In the Northland Premier Division, Kamo are the only unbeaten team after three rounds, downing previously unbeaten Kerikeri High School 5-1 on Sunday.
