Captain Craig Russell labelled the century one of the best Breslin had scored as he tempered his normally aggressive batting by being conservative to start with, working the singles before unleashing some big shots towards the latter part of his innings.
In other games, Whangarei Boys High School were asked to bat first in their game against City at Cobham Oval. Englishman Richard Atkins bowled superbly early on, taking three wickets for five runs off his nine overs.
He was well supported by Vishaan Harypursat as they extracted surprising movement to dismiss the students for a paltry 67. Opener Jordan Antunovich was the only batsman to offer any resistance. He scored 30 and was the ninth wicket to fall.
As expected, City scored the required runs with the loss of only two wickets and secured a valuable bonus point going into the last round.
The game of the round was played at Kaipara Flats between the two in-form teams, Kaipara Flats and Kamo.
Batting first, Kaipara Flats amassed 174/7 off their 50 overs.
The partnership between Kevin Forde (57) and Matthew Taylor, both better known as bowlers, was a telling difference in the game.
In reply Kamo had their chances, they were 100/4 at one stage, requiring four runs an over to win, but good bowling from Keiran Dill and the lack of a substantial innings on Kamo's part eventually saw them dismissed for 162. Dill with 4-26 was the pick of the bowlers.
With one round remaining, the competition to find the finalists is interestingly poised.
Kaipara Flats are guaranteed a spot with the other spot going to either City or Onerahi.
After this weekend's round, City are one point ahead of OC, but bonus points and the winner of their round-robin game could yet determine who Kaipara Flats play in the final.
In reserve grade, Kamo and Kamo High School fought out the final of their Twenty20 competition at Cobham Oval on Friday night. Batting first, Kamo High School would have been disappointed with their total of 104 off 20 overs. Jacob Cherrington was the pick of the batters with 30.
In reply, Kamo were rocked early and at one stage were 37/7, thanks to some good bowling from Jacob Cherrington and the ageless Roger Turner. In Kamo's favour was that they still had 12 overs left to chase down the target.
Captain Phil Atkinson and Jason Prowse batted sensibly, utilising the remaining overs in a great partnership of 56 to see Kamo sneak home in the final over with just four balls to go.
This win, coupled with the good form of the premier side, continues the strong resurgence of the Kamo club this year.
