Northland's Lachie Munro reckons the Blues can reach the playoffs of this year's Super-15 competition and he is happy enough to chime in when he can.
The first year recruit - one of three Northlanders in the squad - said there is a resolve in the squad that this season won't be another that got away.
"You look around at training and see the depth and experience in the squad and it's pretty impressive ... with the personnel we've got, you've got to be confident going into a game," he said.
He said the experience in the tight five and the flair in the backline makes for a winning combination and tough wins - such as Saturday's rainy game against the Chiefs in Hamilton - are giving the team extra confidence in their mission.
Munro was contracted for the first time this season after playing well for the Blues development squad last year and delivering another top ITM Cup showing for Northland.
He was brought into the first game of the season against the Crusaders as five-eighth cover after Luke McAllister was injured pre-season and was impressive when called on as a replacement. His teammate's form kept him off the park in the two African tour matches and he was supposed to play in the Perth match until his build-up for that match was disrupted when he was knocked out during a development squad game in the Republic.
He had to sit out the encounter but was again selected for the bench for the victory over the Hurricanes at Eden Park last weekend and made a great comeback. He scored his first Super-Rugby try when things were tight - and helped break the Hurricanes resolve - in the Blues' 41-17 win.
"It was good to get back in the side and it seems like they trust me now, enough to put me on the field and I hope I get the chance to play in Whangarei on the weekend as well," he said.
The utility back has played in two positions, on the wing and at fullback and he prefers the latter.
"When you're playing fullback you can get to first receiver a little bit more when the first-five is tied up - I look to do it even when I play on the wing - but last (Saturday) night (in Hamilton) I only had a few minutes on the park and didn't get the chance to do much at all," he said.
Munro is looking forward to playing the Cheetahs in Whangarei.
"I'm really excited about it and we've got the bye the following week, so (Rene) Ranger and me are planning to stay up there for a few extra days and catch up with some mates and maybe get out for a fish," he said.
The points are for the taking at this Saturday's match against the Cheetahs but Munro said it may be a tougher game than expected.
"They're hot and cold, so they're a team that you've got to do your homework on... it'd be a mistake to take them too lightly."
The match is at Toll Stadium on Saturday with a 5.30pm kick-off.
