The top teams clashed in the latest netball premier round with third-ranked Northland Coastal Development Whangaruru upsetting second-ranked Semco Group Onerahi.

The Whangaruru team had a clear win, 60-48, after Onerahi 1 led at half time by three goals.

For Whangaruru there was tight defence by Liahona Hebden at goal keep and Reanon Hetaraka Sadler at goal defence and some great work in the first half by Shawni Paniora at goal attack and Morgan Taurua at goal shoot.

This week also saw the welcome return of tall shooter Karlene Kingi.

In the mid court Cherie Pepene at wing attack created space and fed the circle well. Jamie Lee Tito at centre played an outstanding game.

For Onerahi 1, Judith Campbell at goal attack played out of her skin despite being ill and the experienced Chervonne Taylor in the mid court was a welcome addition to a team plagued with injuries.

The round's closest game featured fifth ranked Manawanui 1 playing eighth ranked Semco Group Onerahi 2 with Manawanui 1 taking a narrow 40-37 win. Manawanui's Ravena Otene at goal keep put in a big effort and managed an amazing stretch over the ball to disrupt the Onerahi 2 shooters.

Tara Wells at centre had an outstanding game on attack and defence.

Sandra Flintoff, coming on later in the game at goal shoot, held her ground, drawing a number of penalties and shooting well. For Onerahi 2 Sarah Nicholls and Hayley Taylor were effective in defence.

Tracey Stewart at wing defence also had a solid game, as did Kim Leemeyer, who replaced her in the final quarter.

In the all Wahine Toa derby match of Wahine Toa 1 playing Wahine Toa 2, the number 1 team had a predictable win 49 goals to 35.

- For Wahine Toa 1 the combination of Raina Doar and Sharayne Moir was a force to be reckoned with in defence. In the mid court Te Aroha Palmer provided maturity and fed well into the circle. And the combination of young and not so young in the circle saw 14-year-old Kahu Kura Hau-Peita combine beautifully with the experienced Kahu Dick. For Wahine Toa 2 Julie Williams at goal keep and Elaine Ross at goal shoot provided maturity and experience at both ends of the court. In the mid court Harmony Kingi at centre and Tegs Wharewaka at wing defence proved an annoyance to the opposition with some good defensive work.

The game between Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1 and WGHS 1 was a predictably big score with Fideliter 1 winning 55 goals to 22. WGHS 1 are rebuilding this season with a number of the players in the squad coming up from A grade. They were competitive for the first 15 minutes - only being down by three goals at the end of the first quarter.

However, WGHS had nothing to combat the speed, skill and aerial play of Fideliter 1 - Jacinta Matson was a welcome injection in the mid court and she paired up nicely with Sharelle Toka at wing attack. For Fideliter Lara Tipene at goal defence and later centre had another outstanding game. Alisha Takimona and Rowena Davis Cooper in defence intercepted and read the game well. Joanne Davis Cooper at wing defence also had a strong game and Jessie McClintock Maihi and Cassey Cooper Rudolph were the best of the Fideliter shooters, averaging 80 per cent.
