Whangarei Girls' High School has definitely kickstarted their Educare North premier netball season by snaring their first win of the season.

In a Friday night match which was full of intensity, Girls' High were made to fight for their 54-40 triumph over Takahiwai, with both teams fighting to the end.

Girls' High started strongly and went on to outscore their opponents in three of the four quarters.

For Girls' High, Shannon George in defence picked up a lot of turnover ball and at the opposite end of the court Maanaki Peri converted a lot of ball and was strong in the shooting circle. Olivia Lobb at goal attack also moved and shot strongly.

Kyla Williams, on at wing defence and then wing attack, had a great game particularly on attack with some strong driving moves and excellent feeds into the circle.

For Takahiwai, Morgana Nathan, Kayla Chapman and Anne Marie Lamby in defence had great games, always hunting the ball and putting good pressure on the young Girls' High shooters.

Manawanui Red defeated Active Refrigeration Fideliter 2 by 62-34. For Manawanui Red, in defence, Revena Otene and Hayley Thompson had outstanding games and at the opposite end Gail Shepherd and Rhiannon Reti shot accurately and were dynamic in their play.

For Fideliter 2, in defence Jodie Mcgluggage came on in the second half and combined well with Erin Gunson to slow the feed into the Manawanui shooters.

Nane Maru, starting at goal attack, combined well with Tilitha Everitt to give Fideliter 2 a good start.

Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1 was dominant in their game against Potter Electrical Onerahi and they comprehensively won every quarter. Fideliter 1 were eventual winners by 66-32.

For Fideliter 1, Alisha Takimoana at goal keep gained a significant amount of turnovers. All the mid court players provided solid performances. Arona Tipene in the shooting circle had an outstanding performance and did not miss a goal.

For Onerahi, it was not a great performance and the team will have a bit to focus on this week before their next game.

Meanwhile, Northland Coastal Development Whangaruru had another good win, this time over Treewise Marist by 63-55.

Whangaruru won each quarter except for the final quarter which Marist won confidently, but it was all a little too late.

For Whangaruru, Liahona Hebden at goal defence and Reanon Hetaraka Sadler at goal keep put pressure on the Marist shooters and got tips and intercepts. In the shooting circle, player coach Sophy Tua had to take the court due to players being out with illness and she combined well with Morgan Taurua at goal shoot who was strong on the aerial ball.

For Marist, Rose Parker at wing defence for half the game put pressure on the ball and was a great support. Tamea Ross at goal attack played a great game and made herself available.
