Recently promoted Manawanui White will be happy with their first win in premier grade after beating Treewise Marist, 56-49.

Manawanui White began strongly to go ahead by four goals at the end of the first quarter on Friday. However, by halftime, Marist had reduced the gap to just three goals.

Manawanui White got back in the third quarter before they consolidated their win with a good final quarter.

For Manawanui White, the defence team took time to settle, however, changes made throughout the game and the combination later of Cherith Schragg and Sian Telfer tightened up the circle defence and they created plenty of turnover ball. In the midcourt, the injection of Kelsey Power into wing attack strengthened the team and she gave good options and ball to the shooters.

For Marist 1, Nicky Taylor at goal shoot worked tirelessly, while Kim Ruth in the midcourt was a strength at wing attack then wing defence.

Potter Electrical Onerahi 1 had a good win over the younger Whangarei Girls' High School 1 team by 55-43.

Onerahi leapt out of the blocks quickly, with Marcie Cooke at goal keep snaring several intercepts.

The young Girls' High team fought back to win the second quarter convincingly, with only four goals in it at the half.

For Onerahi, Cooke was outstanding on defence being solid throughout the game. The whole team, however, played well and put in a good attacking and defensive effort.

For Girls' High, Hanna Tukaki dominated the midcourt and had an excellent game. Northland Coastal Development Whangaruru 1 had a tougher game than they were expecting with Active Refrigeration Fideliter 2 having a great game.

Whangaruru were up by 13 goals at the half and at full time that was only increased to 19 goals, as they won 64-46, so Fideliter 2 really put the pressure on in the second half.

For Whangaruru, Jaimee Lee Tito, at goal defence, in the first half did plenty of work and Lettica Shelford in the second half was also effective in coming up with good ball. Morgan Taurua at goal shoot remained strong and held well for the long bomb pass into the circle that later in the game was the only option at times. The injection of player-coach Sophie Tua for a quarter also motivated the team and she was effective.

For Fideliter 2, Katelyn Donovan in the midcourt at wing attack then centre, had a great game being a workhorse. Erin Gunson in the defence circle was persistent and at times was underestimated by the Whangaruru shooters.

Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1 was too strong for Manawanui Red and they had a good win, 55-38, leading from start to finish. Manawanui Red did, however, have a good third quarter which they won by two goals.

For Fideliter 1, Rowena Davis Cooper had a solid dependable game and the defence unit enjoyed plenty of turnover ball. In the midcourt, Lara Tipene at centre drove consistently to the ball and she was well supported by Arona Tipene at wing attack and later in the game by Cassey Cooper.

For Manawanui Red, Mellinee Leef in defence got plenty of intercepts and had a good game, while Andrea Cameron at wing defence disrupted midcourt play and was always available on attack. Koea Kaka at goal attack played an excellent game having recently stood down a couple of weeks to transfer to the Manawanui team.

Except for Premiers there is no other netball on July 20 or 27 because of school holidays.
