Onerahi taught Whangarei Girls' High School a netballing lesson during their Educare North Premier Netball Competition clash, winning by 68-44.

Despite the result, the young WGHS side drew the opening and third quarters as they stepped it up a gear and showed that they can be competitive.

However, ultimately Potter Electrical Onerahi were too strong in their encounter on Saturday with defender Shaina Tane proving solid, as always, on defence.

Also playing well for Onerahi was Hayley Taylor at wing attack, and wing defence, who proved to be an impact player as she picked up some timely intercepts.

WGHS welcomed the availability of Jacinta Matson, who is also a star squash player, at wing attack which meant plenty of ball was available to the shooters.

Olivia Lobb at goal attack was a standout in the shooting circle and combined well with Matson. The defence trio of Simone Nordstrom, Shannon George and Anna Goodman proved effective against the tall Onerahi shooter.

In what should have been the game of the weekend, Northland Coastal Development Whangaruru Combined came away with a big win over Manawanui Red by 69-36.

For Whangaruru Combined, Jamiee Lee Tito firstly at goal defence, then centre, had an exceptional game, effective on defence and dangerous on attack. Tito combined well with Liahona Hebden at goal keep who also had a strong performance.

For Manawanui Red, they showcased a couple of their younger players. However, it was the more experienced players to stand out including the injection of Renee Paniona into wing defence at half time where she made an instant impact.

The interclub clash of Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1 playing Active Refrigeration Fideliter 2 saw a messy and untidy game unfold with the number one side winning 64-44.

For Fideliter 1, in defence Alisha Takimoana and Rowena Davis Cooper frustrated the Fideliter 2 shooters with intercepts. In mid court Lara Tipene, Jo Davis Cooper and Suzie Kingi were excellent on attack and looked after the ball.

For Fideliter 2, young Katelyn Donovan at wing defence applied constant pressure to the more experienced Fideliter 1 wing attack. Danielle Kirby at centre for most of the game showed determination - never giving up.

The final game was low scoring with Treewise Marist the winners against Takahiwai 1 by 59-35.

For Marist, Nicky Taylor at goal shoot shot well and made herself available for her feeders, shooting at over 80 per cent.

For Takahiwai, Kayla Chapman at goal defence had an outstanding defensive game and did a lot of work bringing the ball through the court.
