Fideliter coach Paula Martin knows her team have a mountain to climb tomorrow when they step on to the court against Marist Old Girls but she expects her players to come prepared for an all-out assault on the summit.
Marist are the team to beat in the final - they got
there without dropping a game all season.
"They'll be extremely confident and, to be fair, they've earned it, they haven't lost all year but finals netball is a completely different beast, it comes down to who is the best team on the day," Martin said.
The only way to beat Marist was simply to outplay them where they could: "My girls will definitely have to play to their strengths to beat them, they're determined, they're gutsy and we showed that last week."
Fideliter overcame an eight-point third-quarter deficit to beat Old Boys last week in the final moments of their semifinal to earn a place in the final. They will need to show the same resolve tomorrow and then some.
Marist coach Eve Barton said her side had played like champions all season: "Old Girls have really worked hard all season and not just sat back and used their experience, they've trained hard and they deserve to win."
But Barton said they wouldn't be complacent against Fideliter, who deserved their final berth.
"They'll be hungry to win and other teams have gone unbeaten throughout the season only to slip up in the final ... I think it's a matter of sticking to the gameplan that they've used all year and that should be enough to win it."
Martin said the title could come down to who made fewer mistakes.
"That's how we can even things up a bit, we can make less errors than they do and then we can compete on more even terms."
She said Marist had few weaknesses.
"It is a challenge but ... effectively it's a repeat of last year's final so we've proved it's not luck that sees us here, and now it's a chance to go one step further."
The final starts at 3.15pm at the Kensington Courts.
Marist: Nicky Taylor (c), Kelly Milton, Katie Snyman, Hayley Barrell, Kathy Gardener, Tracey Brady, Sophia Tua, Vanessa Bardett.
Fideliter: Ursula Albrecht, Loren Eagle, Megan Henderson, Judy Macdonald, Renee Lowther, Emma Hearsey, Rochelle Skelton, Kimberley Biggs, Tina Cachemelle-Bayne.
