The second week of a five-week Collegiate Challenge involving six high school teams has produced more sparkling netball.
The competition is broken into two pools - a combined Bream Bay College-Waipu entry (BBC Waipu), Whangarei Girls' High School 2 (WGHS 2) and Pompallier 1 form the first pool while Kamo High School 1 (KHS 1), Tikipunga High School 1 (THS 1) and a Manawanui Collegiate club team form the second.
BBC Waipu and Manawanui Collegiate both had wins the previous week and enjoyed the bye last week.
The game between KHS 1 and THS 1 was a close one and KHS took out the win 28-25. Both teams won two quarters a piece. For KHS 1, Alisha Frost at goal keep had a nice game and read play well. She combined well with Irihaapeti Te Whata Ashby at goal defence who also came through for the ball. Ashlee Crane at centre played a good attacking game and was timely in her drives. Kiriti Stokes at goal attack provided excellent timing and elevation in her shots and moved well. For THS 1 it was a team effort and the whole team played well. Jacinda Branson at centre was a nice match up against Crane and Tyme Shepherd Rata at goal attack worked the circle well and provided some awesome shooting to keep her team in the game.
WGHS 2 beat Pompallier 1 confidently 36-14. WGHS 2 led from start to finish winning every quarter. For WGHS 2, Hanna Tukakai at centre played an outstanding game on attack and defence. She picked up numerous intercepts and tips and provided strong, fast, attacking drives. In defence Bella Drinnan and Anna Goodman also obtained valuable turnover ball. And at the other end of the court Olivia Lobb at goal attack played a strong game and shot consistently. For Pompallier 1, Leo Powell in defence played determinedly and was resilient on defence. Lea Turner at centre was an effective link to both defence and attack and the standout player. Hannah Clarjs, coming on at goal shoot, shot well in phases.
