Mt Tiger Archers hosted the national bowhunter tournament at the outdoor range in Parua Bay over the weekend.
Ross Fryer's course was technical and challenging, requiring exact distance judging along with good technical archery skills to earn a high result.
Some 52 shooters took part, with professional Trevor Irvine crowned the overall
champion with 1051 points from a possible 1120.
Local club Mt Tiger was well represented, and took the club trophy for most points accumulated during the tournament.
In the freestyle unlimited division, along with Irvine, the winners were Lois Howe (adult female), Stephen Orchard (adult male), Ron Gordon (veteran) Cameron Clare (junior Male) and Rebekah Thoroughgood (cub female).
Mitchell Joynt (junior) and Ben Orchard (cub) took out the freestyle limited divisions.
The bowhunter unlimited adult men's division had a wonderful display of sportsmanship when Terry Bassett had equipment failure, and Daley Jones loaned him his equipment to complete the round, only to have Bassett beat Jones for top spot by four points.
James Williams and Nathan Orchard were the other successful archers in this division for veteran and junior respectively.
World champion Mike Lainchbury took out the men's bowhunter limited section, with his father Lyall winning the veteran class.
Locals Terry Hand and Penny Baggot won the unsighted compound adult divisions, with Oliver Coutts beating his brother Patrick by 4 points for the cub class.
In the recurve section Phil Dickey won from Mt Tiger competitor John Cook, with Sam Shingler winning the cub recurve division. Locals Kelly McConnell (adult male) and Rob Ward (veteran male) won the longbow divisions.
This competition The National Bowhunter tournament was the last national event to be held at these grounds, as after over 20 years the family based club is moving on due to a change of land ownership.
The next major event is the Arrowhead Archery sponsored club day on August 7. Any enquires regarding archery, please contact Jamie Carey, Secretary, Mt Tiger Archers, details are on the website www.mttigerarchers
