Mark Cromie and Roger Taylor have their overnight bags packed and at the door for when they make the dash to Hamilton today.
But not before trying to score some verbal points over each other before heading to petrol-head heaven, the New Zealand round of Australian V8 Supercars series race in the Waikato city; the Hamilton 400 starting tomorrow.
The V8 series is all about superiority on the track between Holden and Ford, and that rivalry has the competition between local dealerships Mark Cromie Holden and Pacific Motor Group at boiling point.
Well, kind of.
All indications from pre-event ticket sales indicate the Hamilton event could be bigger than the iconic Bathurst 500 attendance record of 182,000 over three days, which is enough to get Taylor and Cromie pumped up anyway.
So the two devoted motorsport fans were trading insults yesterday.
"Shall I bring an axe," was Cromie's response to attending a photo shoot with Taylor.
"It doesn't matter what he brings, I know who is going to win," was Taylor's retort.
The on-track battles in the V8 Supercar championship run until the end of the season in December.
Cromie is no stranger to motorsport as a four-time world champion power jetboater, and reckons Holden will be all over the new Hamilton race track.
Taylor begs to differ, he reckons Ford will be the front runners, a factor he hopes will help sell Ford apparel he will be marketing from a marquee in Hamilton.
