Once a year Taipa Speedway plays host to a selection of CTRA (Circle Track Racing Association) Speedway titles.
On Saturday, a range of titles will be up for grabs, including the New Zealand Jalopy, North Island Ltd Saloons, North Island B Saloons, North Island Std Stockcars, and CTRA Youth Saloons titles.
The NZ Jalopy title is held by Craig Millar of Rangeview Speedway, near Matamata. Taipa and Dargaville racers are gearing up, to challenge drivers from around the country for this year's title. Dargaville's Chris White is bringing two cars to challenge the DeWaal stable of jalopies, being prepared by Craig and Daniel DeWaal.
Taipa's Roy "Inchman" Walker won the NI Ltd Saloon title last season, while Whangarei's Anita Sloot, and Keith Wilson from Kaikohe were also on the podium. These three will attempt to hold off the strong challenges from this year's top-notch field of Limited Saloons.
Aaron Johnson of Dargaville holds the NI B Saloon title but Taipa's Roger Frear has been in top form and will be ready to challenge for this title.
