Speedway legend Jamie Fox will attract some major competition as Modified racing returns to the Whangarei Speedway tomorrow.
Whangarei spokesman Paul Thornley said the club was buzzing that Fox had accepted the invitation to compete at the Whangarei Modified Championships. "It's always great to see him in action," Thornley said.
"He's what we class as a Modified legend. He has been doing it a fair while and he's been there and done that, winning all the New Zealand titles."
The Modified class returns to the Whangarei track on Port Rd for the first time in years.
"The Modified racing will be the big drawcard. They haven't been up here racing properly for a number of years and they always provide exciting action," he said.
"It will be one of those meetings you don't want to miss. The Modified cars are very fast - they have big horsepower V8s running in very light chassis so they really travel."
Modified competitors will be coming from Huntly and Auckland to compete with Fox.
Racing starts at 1pm and features quad bikes, Limited saloons, Super saloons, Production saloons, C-Grade, Modified and the day's entertainment will be completed by the second round of the Whangarei TQ Midget championships.
There is also a chance that there could be an appearance by a group of Mini-stockcars, but Thornley said yesterday he was still waiting on confirmation they would be competing.
