Ocean Beach, at Whangarei Heads, will today host the third annual Ocean Beach Boardriders Club surf competition.
Registration for the event will be at the lookout before 8.30am, with the entry fee set at $20 or free to Ocean Beach Boardriders financial members.
Through Steve Bowling Contracting's generous sponsorship, thereis a cash pool of $950 of prize money spread across the divisions with the open men's grade fielding the highest prize with $500. The juniors, women and over-40 divisions all have prize money of $150.
The longboard division has a first prize of a $200 travel voucher from Island Holidays, which specialises in surf and snow holidays. Spot prizes will be drawn after prize-giving, including $100 cash, a $100 travel voucher and sponsors products.
There will be a barbecue steaming away to make the experience complete, with sausages, fresh burgers and drinks available, plus a raffle for a hamper of surfing products.
