THE FINALS of the Whangarei Junior Rugby League competition will be held this Sunday at Otaika Park.
After recent weather that has kept the juniors from playing in recent weeks it may be a struggle for the coaches to keep their players focused for their matches this weekend.
The inaugural primary school
competition, run by Whangarei organisers, started in early April and has proved encouraging in terms of numbers but it has also thrown up several points of discussion for the organisers ahead of next season.
Several parents would prefer the competition to be held on Saturdays and it will be up to organisers to debate that point with the Whangarei District Council over the off season.
The positions going into the finals are:
Under-6s: Marist/Manaia 1, Takahiwai 2, Portland 3, Hikurangi 4.
Under-8s: Marist/Manaia 1, Hikurangi 2, Takahiwai 3, Portland 4, Northern Wairoa 5.
Under-10s: Hikurangi 1, Takahiwai 2, Marist /Manaia 3.
Under-12s: Marist /Manaia green 1, Marist /Manaia White 2, Takahiwai 3.
Sunday's draw is:
Round 1: Field 1, Takahiwai U6 v Marist /Manaia U6, 10am, final; field 2, Portland U6 v Hikurangi U6, 10am, playoff for 3rd & 4th; field 3, Takahiwai U8 vs Hikurangi U8, 10am, 2nd v 3rd; field 4, Portland U8 v Northern Wairoa U8, 10am, 4th v 5th.
Round 2: Field 3, Takahiwai U10 v Marist U10, 10.45am, 2nd v 3rd; field 1, Marist U8s v winner of 2nd and 3rd place game, 11am, final.
Round 3: Field 3, Hikurangi U10s v winner of 2nd and 3rd place, 12 noon, final; field 1, Marist Green U12 v Marist White U12, final.
