Southern Northland rugby league teams taught their northern counterparts a lesson after all but one of the south-based teams came out on top.
Round five of the Rugby League Northland Premiership saw Otangarei's City Knights demolish Otaua 68-4, Takahiwai hammer Kerikeri 64-10, Dargaville's Northern Wairoa team beat Moerewa 28-24, and Portland smash Muriwhenua 50-18. Hora Hora were the only southern team to lose on Saturday, going down 42-16 to Hokianga.
In Takahiwai's easy win over Kerikeri, Charles Tarau starred with four tries and Ross Macfarlane came in close behind with a hat-trick in what was a one-sided game. Takahiwai's Hori Tuhoro scored a total of 20 points after crossing the line twice and nailing six conversions.
Takahiwai coach Shane Hool said that this Saturday's game against Muriwhenua would be played at the earlier kick-off of 1pm.
