"[Players being unavailable] has a major impact when we don't have those players there, because like any sport it's about getting the balance right come game day.
"If some of those experienced players aren't there it gives a chance to another youngster to put their hand up."
Cross reinforced that North Force was in a rebuilding phase this year, with the team, board and coaches expecting to go through short-term pain result-wise in return for long-term rewards.
"In terms of results on the field we haven't seen great improvement but in terms of our performances we have which is pleasing to see.
"The last two to three weeks we have played teams that are close to us on the table, but it's just evident they're experienced sides and they've got players who've been playing at this level for a while. It's pleasing that other teams are commenting on how we have a young side and can see what we're trying to achieve and where we're trying to go.
"It is hard because ultimately you're judged on your results ... Sometimes you've got to take one or two steps backwards before you can take strides forwards, and that's kind of where North Force is at the moment."
