After winning the toss, Kaipara sent Kamo in to bat at Kamo Cricket Ground on Saturday, and their bowlers quickly set about dismantling Kamo's batting order.
In just 35 overs, Kaipara had Kamo all out for 135, with Matthew Taylor bagging three wickets for 40 and Tauseef Satti taking 2-22 in his seven overs. Kyran Dill, Jake Phillips and Dexter Buchanan shared the other wickets.
In reply, Kaipara comfortably reached their target, making 134 in 28-1 overs with seven wickets to spare.
Raymond Beamish smashed nine fours and top-scored with 45 not out, while Brett Hood hit 38 not out and Arun Charles looked promising before he was dismissed for 28.
Whangarei Boys' High School youngsters got a chance to be noticed playing City at Cobham Oval.
Seven of the school boys' first XI side were away, competing in the Mapei Northern Districts Senior Secondary Boys Cricket Tournament in Gisborne, so the team was basically an under-16 side, team manager Russell Smith said. "We considered defaulting but decided we had a good enough under-16 side to put out there and we got a reasonable game out of it.
The schoolboys batted first and made 143-7 in a reduced 45-over match (due to wet weather). Ben Williams got the bulk of the runs, scoring 55, and he had support from Fraser Seymour (16), Ben Smith (10), Flynn Hart (13 not out) and Max Davis (11 not out).
Ian Page was the best of City's bowlers, taking 4-17 on the green wicket. City made 144-2 in reply in just 24 overs but they had to work hard early in the innings for the victory.
Rory Darkins was out early before Bert Horner (64) and Page (59 not out) steadied the ship, getting a partnership of 126. Maungakaramea ended Onerahi Central's winning streak at Kensington Park, in another reduced 45-over match, Maungakaramea batted first and made 177-9. Despite the wet ball causing problems at times for Onerahi's bowlers, Nic Breslin (4-38) and Josh Matthews (2-29) performed well.
When Onerahi went in to bat they were in trouble early, down four wickets for just 13 runs. Chris Harrison and BJ Howe steadied the side with their 60-plus partnership, resurrecting Onerahi's chances of a win, however the rest of the order fell over and Onerahi were all out for 149 in the 40th over.
Round four is next Saturday.
