Whangarei Boys' High School centre Rimon Watkins looks to fend off the tackle of a Kerikeri High School opponent during their first 15 encounter on Saturday in Whangarei. The match was an old-fashioned slog in difficult conditions, with Kerikeri winning 7-3.
Kerikeri were trailing 0-3 with 15 minutes to play when Frank Moses scored the winning try. The win took Kerikeri into third place in the Northland Secondary School competition, one place ahead of Boys' High at the end of the round. Rarawa and the Stallions, a Kaikohe-Hokianga-based team, are in first and second place.
