A small but growing Kung Fu organisation, the Onerahi-based Nam Wah Pai club, travelled down to Tauranga recently to try out their skills against competitors from the upper North Island.
The Onerahi club's members got more than they bargained for at the tournament with numerous demonstrations, free sparing, katas and other types of entertainment provided in breaks between competition.
The club's instructor, Nghia Ly, along with students Nhung La, Gemma Nightingale, Kai Creamer and Tomi Creamer, came away with placings in their respective grades.
The tournament was a warm-up for the national champs in October.
The club meets at the Onerahi Community Hall on Tuesdays at 5.30pm and Fridays at 4.30pm.
