The Avoca Lime Ruatangata junior hockey club had its most successful season in the recently completed hockey season, winning five of the six Whangarei JMC competitions.
Achieving a clean sweep was unfortunately not possible as no team was entered by the club in the boys A grade, which was won by Kamo Intermediate.
The club entered 15 teams in the competition in all grades with over 190 children from ages five to 13 years on their books, making it the largest junior hockey club in Northland. Not surprisingly, the club was also well represented in all the Northland representative age group teams with the girls' A Blue team getting 10 of their 14 players into the Collier Girls teams.
The A girls team was coached by Vicki Allen, the B girls by Don McKenzie, the B boys by Martyn Cottle and Donna Ford, the C girls were coached by Brad Kini and Jo Gunson, while the C boys were coached by Paula Shaw.
