LOUIE Treiber was the envy of golfers at the Pines club recently and proved that youth is no barrier when it comes to golf.
The 15-year-old Parua Bay golfer shot his first ever hole-in-one at the Pines Golf Club during the first round of the junior matchplay championships on September 15.
It was a day Treiber will long remember.
He had already completed a satisfying victory over the top seed in the championships and teed off on the 153m par three with a five iron. The ball struck the lip of the hole and kicked up before dropping straight into the hole.
Playing off a 21 handicap, Treibur finished the day with a very creditable 86, to give him a nett total of 65, to move on to the second round of the championships.
The Year Eleven student at Whangarei Boys High School took time out from study to play the match and afterwards had no regrets at all.
The young golfer comes from a keen sporting family and has been playing golf since he joined the Pines as a 12-year-old.
As is the tradition at the club, the ball will be mounted on a plinith for presentation at the end of the club championships, in a few weeks time.
