THE Kerikeri High School boys in-line hockey team ran riot in their first few encounters at the New Zealand College Games in Hamilton, but their easy start returned to haunt them later in the tournament.
The Stingrays first met St Johns College, smashing the opposition 18-0.
Their second match was against Botany Downs High School when they hardly broke a sweat beating them 15-0.
The Stringrays also won their third game against Hillcrest High School on Saturday evening 20-1.
Being so successful on the first day of play resulted in the team proceeding through to the quarterfinals on Sunday, where they played Fraser High School.
They had another good win to reach the semifinals 6-0.
Getting through to the semifinals was a great result for the team but they were pitted against the strong St Pauls Collegiate squad.
Unfortunately, the final result of the match was not what the team had hoped for.
They narrowly lost 5-6, with the winning goal scored in the final 30 seconds.
St Pauls went on to win the gold medal.
