Tim Southee's latest form has seen the Waiotira cricketer return to the representative fold again, selected for both the New Zealand Twenty20 and One Day International squads to play Bangladesh.
The 21-year-old, who plays for Maungakaramea when not fulfilling Northern Districts or national playing duties, stepped up for the Northern Districts Knights in their HRV T20 Cup campaign, and hopes to repeat that form when NZ tackles Bangladesh in a T20 match on Wednesday, followed by three one-day matches and a test match.
"It's always an honour and thrill to play for your country and you make the most of it when you get the chance," Southee said.
"The team are looking forward to playing a good series and building up some momentum to play the Aussies later this summer."
Southee spearheaded the bowling attack alongside the ND skipper Daniel Vettori during the HRV Cup.
The fast-medium bowler claimed third place in the wicket-takers ladder, with a best performance of 3-15, while he also shone with the bat, contributing valuable runs down the batting order. He was also ranked fourth on the HRV Cup Most Valuable Player table.
Southee was pleased with his consistency throughout the Cup campaign, although the team as a whole was disappointed on being denied a final berth by Central Districts, who defeated ND on Tuesday night at Hamilton's Seddon Park.
"We showed glimpses of a championship winning team ... and we believed we could have won it, especially with what was at stake - a place in the Champions League Trophy in India. We were disappointed not to get a crack at that," Southee said.
CD and Auckland will battle out the final on Sunday in New Plymouth.
The NZ squad players who are involved in the final will join up with the rest of their team in Hamilton on Monday, where they will have their first full-team training session, ahead of Wednesday's T20 match at Seddon Park.
Three ODIs follow, with the first on February 5, at McLean Park in Napier.
University Oval in Dunedin host the teams next on February 8, and on February 11, the teams will clash at AMI Stadium, Christchurch.
Two new faces join the NZ squads for the series - Taranaki's Peter Ingram for both the T20 and ODI matches and Wellington left-armer Andy McKay for just the ODIs.
The squad for the test match starting February 15 in Hamilton is yet to be named.
NZ Twenty20 squad: Dan Vettori (c), Brendon McCullum, Peter Ingram, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, James Franklin, Gareth Hopkins, Jacob Oram, Nathan McCullum, Ian Butler, Daryl Tuffey, Tim Southee.
NZ ODI squad: Vettori, B. McCullum, Ingram, Guptill, Taylor, Neil Broom, Oram, Franklin, Butler, Tuffey, Southee, Andy McKay.
