A ton from Onerahi-Central's Garth Anderson helped his side reach a formidable total of 279 putting Maungakaramea under pressure in their premier grade 50-over clash.
Hosts Maungakaramea fell short by 140 runs, losing their first one-day game of Northland Cricket Association's season.
Anderson, Onerahi's professional player/coach, spoke with the team before Saturday's game and asked the "lads to step up" for the match.
"The guys responded and we batted well. It was good to get the runs on the board as it put Maungakaramea under pressure - they have been playing well this season and haven't been put under pressure," Anderson said.
Onerahi stalwart Andy McDowell and Craig Russell opened the batting after they won the toss, with McDowell hitting 30 runs and Russell scoring five.
Josh Matthews came to the crease and smacked 60, including 10 boundaries and was joined by Anderson, who struck 15 fours during his 101-run stint with the bat.
"Josh and I had a good partnership - making over 100, and good partnerships were the key as they guaranteed we had a good total at the end."
John Child was the pick of Maungakaramea's bowlers in their attempt to contain the on-form visitors, taking four wickets off 53 runs in his nine overs.
Brothers Dean and John Child headed the batting line-up for Maungakaramea but were swiftly dismissed with just six and 12 runs respectively.
Brett Hood and Joe O'Sullivan were looking comfortable at the crease before Will Johnston bowled Hood for 21, and O'Sullivan was dismissed lbw for 46 by Gareth Blithe.
Apart from Henry Foy's 19 runs, only single-figure scores were achieved by the remaining batsman, as they were restricted by some efficient Onerahi bowling. Johnston took 3/43 during his 10 overs, while Blithe took 2/12.
It was Onerahi's second one-day win this season, which gave them a glimmer of hope of making the final on November 22.
Kaipara Flats hosted Whangarei Boys' High, who continued their magic form with the bat to win by 98 runs on Saturday.
Kaipara won the toss and sent Boys' High into bat first which they most likely regretted when the school boys' openers Rory Darkins and Todd Beehre scored 44 and 49 respectively.
Henry Cooper followed hitting 42 before he was bowled by Gordon Penney, who was the best of the Kaipara bowlers taking four wickets for 51 runs in his 10 overs.
Boys' High hit 202 in their 50 overs losing only six wickets, leaving Kaipara to face an equally imposing bowling line-up.
Tom Herman was outstanding with the ball, taking 5/27 during his 10 overs, while Darkins had the next best figures, snatching 2/13 in five overs.
Kaipara struggled against the classy school side, falling well short of runs in their chase and losing their second 50-over match.
At Kensington Park, Kamo put in an improved performance against City.
Batting first for City, Ian Page hit out with gusto in a stellar 122 to help his side make 4/240 at the end of their innings.
Kamo's Dean Williams made an impressive 85, but was left stranded after the rest of the wickets fell for 170 after 47.2 overs.
